Starting our classroom Economy - students are paid for coming to school, doing homework, doing their classroom jobs, cleaning up. They are paid weekly but must also pay their bills. They will be able to make choices about saving, spending or giving their money
Class store has opened - students are able to spend their money
Next week - credit cards

Writing - Working on Revising their work by adding adetail to their holiday stories, as well as giving peer feedback in teacher-led groups,
Grammar - Antonyms packet, Poetry lesson working with antonyms
Reading - "checking in" on reading with Ms. Beeton, adjusting levels for independent reading where necessary
Spelling: Hard and soft g sound - after the vowels a, o, u andconsonants the sound is usually hard like g, after the vowels e, i, y the sound is usually soft like j

Maths
Place value - up to ten thousands
Multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000
Greater than and less than using symbols
Negative numbers - using a thermometer
Addition with carrying
Addition "tricks" - mental math strategies using ten bonds to help with three number addition, review that it is not necessary to add in order ex. 13 + 8 + 17 adding 10 + 10 then 7+3 then 8 to get 38
Hundred bonds - ex. finding 54 + _____ = 100 by counting on to the nextten, then counting on by tens to 100

Starting our classroom Economy - students are paid for coming to school, doing homework, doing their classroom jobs, cleaning up. They arepaid weekly but must also pay their bills. They will be able to make choices aboutsaving, spending or giving their money (this part is coming up next week)
In ICT - choosing a country and researching a their currency, practicing typing using Mavis Beacon as well (the school's typing program so that they learn to type correctly with proper typing fingers)
Jack and the Beanstalk trade and bartering lesson with Mr. Ronen who is collaborating on this unit and will be coming in to teach a lesson every Thursday afternoon

Happy New Year!!!!

This week Ms. Audrey So, a student teacher from The College of New Jersey started in our class. She will be with us until February break. She is specializing not only in elementary education, but also deaf education. The children are learning some American Sign Language!
