Dear 3B
Students and Parents,
It
has really been a pleasure to get to know and work with you all this year. Each
child has grown in many ways this year, which is a joy to see.
We
do not have required summer homework in the third grade, but I would encourage
every student to do some reading and math work over the summer. I offer a “treat bag” to any student
who would like to read at least three books and do two book reviews. I would suggest that each student do
some reading aloud, discussing what they have read with an adult. This can be in English or one of the
student’s home languages, though the books and book reviews for the treat bag
should be in English.
I
am including a few pages of math for students to practice. Students should also
practice their times tables, to try to know all of them up to twelve, as well
as the corresponding division facts (a helpful extension is to know the 25’s
and 15’s as well). It is important that students know how to find the answer to
one of the facts by adding or subtracting, but quick recall will be very
helpful as the concepts become more difficult. Flashcards are great and easy to
make! I would encourage you to make math a part of everyday life with such
things as elapsed time, money and making change, measuring with distance,
cooking, etc. Mathletics/Spellodrome/Spelling
City will also be available all summer and I will periodically check in. If
there are any problems with it, please send me an email, which I will also
check from time to time.
Thank
you again for a lovely year. I wish you all a wonderful, safe and restful
summer!
Courtney Beeton
